When I was about 10 or 12 years old, my Grandmother taught me to sew. I remember we made a pillow. The front was made by sewing a bunch of little squares together and the back was all one piece, the fabric was something that I would compare to polyester and we used old pantyhose to stuff it. It was hideous ~ all different shades of pepto pink, mustard yellow and dirty brown ~ but I loved it. For a while, when I was growing up, handmade items and clothing carried a certain stygma - so I stopped sewing. As I got older and the world became more thrifty and green ~ handmade items and clothing became more fashionable and most people were really impressed with the things I had made...so I started sewing again. I have been making different things on a pretty regular basis for about 13 years now. Most of the time I sew for my 2 boys or myself, but every once in a while I will make something for someone else. I love to see the smile that blossoms on someone's face when you give them something that you made with your own hands. It is almost magical!!
